What is Fixed Dental Bridge Work?
A fixed dental bridge is a restorative solution used to replace missing teeth without surgery or removable appliances. The bridge is anchored to the adjacent teeth, with a false tooth—called a pontic—positioned in the middle. The pontic rests on top of the gums, creating the appearance of a natural tooth. If you are not a candidate for dental implants or prefer not to undergo implant surgery, a fixed bridge is an excellent alternative.
Why Would You Need a Fixed Dental Bridge?
A fixed dental bridge may be recommended if you are missing one or more teeth. Unlike partial dentures, which are removable, a fixed bridge is permanently placed and functions like natural teeth. It restores both the appearance and functionality of your smile. Bridges are ideal for patients who cannot have implants or want a non-surgical, long-lasting solution.
Who is a Candidate for a Dental Bridge?
Fixed bridges require no surgical procedures, making them an excellent option for patients seeking a less invasive solution. During a consultation, Dr. Sheth will evaluate your teeth and determine whether a bridge is right for your smile. Bridges are crafted from high-quality, durable materials that are designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth and provide lasting results.
What to Expect During the Dental Bridge Procedure
Getting a dental bridge typically requires two visits:
- Tooth Preparation & Impressions – The supporting teeth (abutments) are gently reshaped to make room for the bridge. We then take precise impressions of your mouth to ensure an exact fit.
- Temporary Bridge Placement – You’ll leave the same day with a temporary bridge to protect your teeth while your permanent one is being made at our trusted dental lab.
- Final Bridge Placement – Once your custom bridge is ready, Dr. Sheth will remove the temporary bridge, adjust the fit, and permanently bond the new bridge into place.
With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, your bridge can last 10 years or longer.
